Germany-headquartered Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA is continuing its network expansion in Southeast Asia with the recent official inauguration of its facility in Indonesia. Schütz has been operating in Jakarta since 2005 with a distribution company. It set up a factory in 2013 in Karawang, 50 km east of Jakarta.

The production of intermediate bulk containers or IBCs started at the new site at the end of last year and has since then been further optimised to meet customer demands.

The firm says its new subsidiary further strengthens delivery security and shortens transport distances in the Southeast Asian market. In terms of population, Indonesia is the fourth-biggest country in the world and its specific geography poses special challenges; the country is spread over more than 17,000 islands, of which only around 6,000 are inhabited. Accordingly, optimised logistics combined with a close proximity to customers are Schütz’s primary goals. The advantages are clear: reduced use of fuels, a better eco balance and higher cost efficiency.

Furthermore, it says the packaging products manufactured in Karawang also offer customers solutions for a wide range of applications. In order to address the special needs of the food industry the site is presently undergoing the FSSC 22000 certification process, which after completion will ensure and document the highest safety and purity standards in materials, the production process and the end product.

Schütz says it is committed to continually building its position in Southeast Asia, and that its wide portfolio offers innovative, sustainable and secure transport packaging for a wide range of filling goods including acids, varnishes, paints or concentrates, foods and cosmetics.

The family-run firm has its headquarters in Selters in the Westerwald region of Germany and employs over 3500 people at more than 40 production sites around the world. There are three Schütz business units: Packaging Systems, Energy Systems and Industrial Services. Besides IBCs, it also produces PE and steel drums.
