LYB and exoIQ team up on material solutions for industrial exoskeletons
US chemical company LyondellBasell (LYB) and German industrial exoskeleton developer exoIQ are collaborating on advanced material solutions for exoIQ’s B900 active back exoskeleton, a wearable system that supports users during physically demanding activities.
LYB, with its capabilities in advanced polymer solutions and its olefins and polyolefins businesses, provides an integrated portfolio of materials for the application. Glass fiber-reinforced polyamide delivers mechanical strength and dimensional stability, polypropylene supports impact resistance, processability and lightweight design, and masterbatch solutions provide consistent color and appearance.
Frank Noeltgen, vice president of Advanced Polymer Solutions Europe at LYB, commented that the partnership with exoIQ aims to deliver an integrated solution that meets the application’s structural, performance and design requirements.
The B900 active back exoskeleton provides support during physically demanding activities such as lifting, carrying and working in a forward-leaning position. By helping reduce physical strain and effort, the wearable solution can make demanding everyday tasks more manageable for workers in logistics, production and skilled trades.
Dr. Bernward Otten, founder and managing director of exoIQ, explained that the B900 requires materials that balance strength, durability, lightweight performance and design. Thus, LYB’s portfolio and the team’s material innovation approach can enable exoIQ to identify complementary solutions for different components of the system.
