South Korean petrochemicals producer LG Chem is aiming to enter Europe with its metallocene-based LLDPE (mLLDPE), having signed an MOU with Versalis, Italian firm Eni’s chemical company that has a significant market share in Europe, recently.
The strategic partnership includes a contract for LG Chem to supply Versalis with mLLDPE, thereby expanding its markets beyond Asia and into the European market. The market development agreement between the two companies is also expected to pave the way for further development projects. The resins are produced using LG Chem’s proprietary polymerisation metallocene catalyst technology.
Applications for the mLLDPE are for agricultural and industrial films as well as pallet stretch wrap and food packaging films, with the resins said to offer increased tensile strength and easy extrusion.
The MOU was signed by LG Chem’s CEO Jinsoo Park and Versalis’s CEO Daniele Ferrari at Versalis’s headquarters in Milan.
