Invista goes world-scale, tops up North American compounding facility

Invista Engineering Polymers, touted as the world’s largest producer of nylon 6,6 polymer is now operating world-scale compounding units at its Chattanooga (Tennessee) manufacturing site. The addition of the new, 22,000-tonne capacity allows Invista to consistently provide customers—regardless of geographic location—with application solutions made from its reinforced engineered polymers sold under the Torzen brand, the company affirms.

“We established our business around the idea of bringing solutions to our customers’ global needs through a robust, yet simplified reinforced polyamide product portfolio – and the addition of this latest and greatest compounding technology is our most recent proof point,” said Richard Hill, Global Commercial Director of Invista. “Our ability to provide consistent, high quality grade engineered polymers anywhere in the world is quickly adding value to our customers’ businesses.”

Consistency and replication are two key focal points for the business. By building the compounding asset in North America, Invista now manufactures product to specification for multiple regions of the world, which helps meet multi-region OEM and automotive suppliers’ needs. The company employed the latest turnkey compounding technology from Coperion and had successful startup in 2013.

“The ability to solve similar problems in various parts of the world is proving to be advantageous,” added Hill. “To be able to do it with the state-of-the-art technology is that much better for our customers.”

The North American compounding asset is Invista’s second compounding investment. In December 2012, the company announced the acquisition of a compounding and recycling manufacturing facility in Born, the Netherlands.
