Corbion Purac, a Netherlands-based lactic acid, lactic acid derivatives and lactides specialist is investing in a 75 kilotonne/annum PLA plant (estimated EUR60 million capex) in Thailand. Tjerk de Ruiter, CEO of Corbion says that the company will only commence with this investment if it can secure at least a third of plant capacity in committed PLA volumes from customers. Corbion will also continue exploring strategic alliances as part of their PLA growth strategy, in order to enhance the business opportunities while mitigating the associated risks, he said.
On the same note, Corbion Purac will continue selling lactides to both existing and new PLA polymerisation customers. Lactide sales for the coatings and adhesives markets will also continue.
