BASF pilots nylon polymerisation plant in Asia

BASF SE's 100,000-metric tonne/year nylon polymerisation plant in Shanghai has started operation following its 6 May inauguration. The wholly-owned facility, which makes Ultramid nylon 6 and 6/6 resins, is located in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, which also is home to a world-scale facility for integrated isocyanates, operated by BASF and partners.

Kurt Bock, chairman of the board of executive directors of BASF, said that this is first investment in nylon polymerisation for BASF in Asia Pacific.

Other Ultramid polymerisation plants being operated by BASF are located in Ludwigshafen, Germany; Antwerp, Belgium; Freeport, Texas; and São Paulo, Brazil.
