DuPont China opts out of POM jv with Asahi Kasei

DuPont China Holding is divesting its interest in the Asahi-DuPont POM (Zhangjiagang) (ADZ) joint venture with Asahi Kasei Chemicals, which began manufacturing acetal (POM) copolymer resins in 2004. DuPont and Asahi Kasei Chemicals will work to receive approvals from the Chinese government and initiate communication with customers on transition plans.

This decision is consistent with DuPont’s strategy to focus market and development efforts on the high-performance, high-precision POM applications where acetal homopolymer is typically required.

DuPont, which invented acetal 60 years ago, supplies the China market with DuPont Delrin acetal homopolymer from its facility in Shenzhen as well as from the other Delrin manufacturing sites around the world. DuPont will continue to strengthen its supply chain capabilities to further increase the volumes of Delrin sourced locally within China.

Delrin acetal homopolymer is typically used in high demanding applications in the automotive, industrial and consumer markets, including safety systems or electrical motors, where high reliability during the application’s life cycle is required.
