Germany-headquartered automotive supplier Kautex Textron has opened a new plant in Chongqing, its fourth in the country, to produce plastic fuel tanks.
The Kautex plant started with one production line and 28 employees, but is designed for four lines and around 150 employees, over a total space of 18,000 sq m. "The location offers great advantages to the plant. It allows working much closer with the customer and makes us more competitive due to lower operation costs," explained Wayne Shen, Vice President Operations Asia.
Kautex has also opened its first validation centre, in Guangzhou, to test plastic fuel tanks for Chinese and Asian automotive makers. The test facility, which is part of a larger Kautex plant, employs ten people.
Kautex, a subsidiary of Textron Inc., makes fuel tanks, blow moulded ducts, fluid reservoirs and other components.
