Carrefour's Majid Al Futtaim partners with Coca-Cola UAE on recycling programme

Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in the UAE, has partnered with Coca-Cola Middle East and UAE-based cleantech company Sparklo to expand Carrefour’s recycling programme under the Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) initiative. The collaboration aims to encourage eco-conscious customer participation and support the UAE’s sustainability goals by installing Coca-Cola branded RVMs in key Carrefour locations.
Building on the proven success of the programme, the initiative is expected to collect more than 1.8 million plastic bottles and aluminium cans annually or over 1,000 containers per day to help reduce CO₂ emissions.
Majid Al Futtaim said the partnership reflects its commitment to advancing sustainability in line with the UAE’s environmental agenda, noting that collaboration and technology play a key role in empowering customers to contribute to a circular economy. Coca-Cola Middle East added that the initiative is in line with its global goal of driving positive change by improving waste collection and supporting local recycling infrastructure. Sparklo emphasised that the partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to making recycling accessible and effective while building systems to recover every bottle in the UAE.
The effort also complements the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031, which seeks to divert 75% of waste from landfills by 2030 through recycling, reuse, and reduced dependence on raw resources.
The co-operated machines are already available at Carrefour stores in Ibn Battuta Mall, City Centre Mirdiff, City Centre Deira, and Burjuman Mall in Dubai, as well as Dalma Mall in Abu Dhabi.
