TaipeiPlas 2024 opens, highlighting unprecedented growth in Taiwan
The Taipei International Plastics and Rubber Industry Show (TaipeiPlas) officially opened today, 24 September, at Hall 1 of the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre. Held alongside the Taipei International Shoe Making Technology Show (ShoeTech Taipei), the event features nearly 500 exhibitors spread across more than 1,800 booths, reflecting a notable 40% growth from the 2022 edition.
Prominent attendees at the opening ceremony included Vice President of the Legislative Yuan, Chiang Chi Chen; Vice Minister of Economic Affairs, Ching-Chang Lien; Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chairman, James CF Huang; and Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI) Chairman, David Chuang.
Game-changing innovations with collaboration and AI
James Huang of TAITRA emphasized the show’s role in bringing together industry dynamics and showcasing plastics innovations, describing it as "chemistry" that fosters brighter prospects. He highlighted the event’s core themes—“Innovative Materials,” “Advanced Manufacturing,” and “Circular Economy”—which resonate with global sustainability trends and the pursuit of net-zero goals.
During his opening speech, Huang also pointed out the latest innovations on display, referring to them as potential “gamechangers.” He explained, “We are developing new plastics and rubber that are not only sustainable but also versatile and affordable. Additionally, we are advancing manufacturing with smart technologies to enhance operational efficiency.”
Huang underscored the collaboration between manufacturers, consumer brands, and researchers, all working toward the common goal of protecting the environment and building sustainable business models. He further stressed that AI is key to reducing waste and energy consumption, enabling greener production processes.
New exhibition zones
This year’s TaipeiPlas introduces three new exhibition zones: “Composite Materials,” “Biorecycled Plastics & Green Products,” and “Adhesives & Glues,” enriching the exhibit profile and adding fresh dynamics to the show. The exhibition covers the entire industry ecosystem, from raw materials to finished products, highlighting emerging value chains.
TAMI’s David Chuang underscored Taiwan’s pivotal role in plastics and rubber machinery exports, valued at US$807 million in 2023, making it the sixth-largest exporter globally. Taiwan's shoe-making machinery ranks third worldwide. Chuang described the event as an ideal platform to experience Taiwan's "green" industry, driven by smart production and sustainability.
Notable exhibitors, including Chen Hsong, Chuan Chyi, Chumpower, CLF, Conair, CYKF, Diing Kuen, Formosa Plastics, Hiwin, JSW, Siemens, and many others, showcased their latest models for diverse applications in aerospace, smart mobility, healthcare, and green energy.
At TaipeiPlas 2024, the “SDGs in Plastic Innovation” pavilion highlights the industry’s ongoing transition. The “Visionary and Sustainable Development Summit for the Plastics and Rubber Industry,” held on the second day, will feature experts from BASF, Arburg, Wittmann, and more, discussing key industry advancements.
The event continues with seminars, an innovation hub, guided tours, procurement meetings, and the TaipeiPlas Award. For more details, visit www.taipeiplas.com.tw.
