Grace, Nayara Energy launch 450 kta PP Plant in India
US-headquartered WR Grace & Co (Grace), a leader in polypropylene (PP) process and catalyst technology, partnered with Nayara Energy Limited for a new 450 kilotonnes per annum (kta) Unipol PP plant in Vadinar, Gujarat, India. This facility uses Grace’s non-phthalate Consista catalysts to produce PP grades suited for applications in the pharmaceutical, health, and hygiene sectors. Additionally, Nayara Energy is utilising Grace’s Unipol Unippac process control software to enhance plant performance.
Sergey Denisov, Chief Development Officer at Nayara Energy, expressed the importance of the partnership in establishing Nayara’s first PP unit, which will manufacture homopolymer, random copolymer, and impact copolymer PP resins for both domestic and international markets.
Alessandro des Dorides, CEO of Nayara Energy, highlighted that this move into the petrochemicals sector aims to meet India's growing demand for high-quality PP products, targeting an 8% market share while supporting the nation’s energy security needs.
Thomas Deman, President of Specialty Catalysts at Grace, stated that this collaboration will help optimize reactor performance and bolster the Vadinar refinery’s capacity to supply the regional PP market.
With over 34 million tonnes of licensed production capacity globally, including 5,000 kta in India, Grace’s Unipol PP technology is widely used in automotive, packaging, and consumer goods applications worldwide.
