R&D: Norner’s new Polymer Exploration Centre; Covestro upgrades technical centre in Leverkusen

Norner’s new Polymer Exploration Centre

Norwegian industrial polymer firm Norner says its new technology centre is ready. The 4,600 sq m international research and technology centre for the plastics industry, Polymer Exploration Centre, is situated on the riverfront in Porsgrunn Norway.

The facilities in the new centre include laboratories for advanced testing of chemical and mechanical performance of polymers and composites, lab pilots for new process technology and catalyst evaluations, a wide variety of extreme polymer material performance testing and a high-tech plastic processing, recycling, application, and packaging centre. It will be a global leading centre for R&D in the sector of polymer, rubber, and composites.

The company provides R&D and technical services to various industry segments where innovative solutions of plastics and composites are requested.

“The new centre represent state of the art facilities and we have made and will continue to make investments in industry relevant pilots and lab facilities,” says, Ole Jan Myhre, Market Manager.

Covestro upgrades technical centre in Leverkusen

In other news, German materials firm Covestro has officially opened its newly shaped technical centre for high performance polyurethane elastomers of the Vulkollan range. Equipped with the latest generation and dedicated equipment for the processing of Desmodur 15 based elastomers, this technical centre in Leverkusen aims at enabling the development of new Vulkollan-based solutions as part of Covestro's Solutions & Specialties segment.

Vulkollan is a renown elastomer mostly used where highest performance cannot be compromised to ensure best reliability for the end-user, adds Covestro. Whether it is to keep an e-commerce logistic platform running 24/7 or to contribute to the safety of roller coasters, it continues.

"For this high performance elastomer, it is all about a close customer interaction to leverage the full benefit of differentiated innovative solutions," says Sucheta Govil, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Covestro.

"Thanks to an extremely high mechanical strength and dynamic load capacity, Vulkollan® is the preferred engineering material for highly demanding applications," explains Dr. Thomas Braig, Head of the Elastomers Business Entity. "For example, these elastomers perfectly suit high-end material handling applications. With this technical centre, we intend to provide our customers with the opportunity to experiment and develop this elastomer in their most challenging applications."
