M&As: Hexpol acquires Spanish wire & cable compounder; BDK Industrial Products becomes part of Swiss ATP Adhesive group

Polymer group Hexpol has acquired 100% of Vicom 2002 S.L., a Spanish polymer compounder active in the wire and cable market. VICOM’s turnover 2020 amounted to some 30 MEUR, is profitable and employs some 30 people in its production facility in Barcelona.

“Through the acquisition of Vicom, we strengthen our position in Southern Europe in a segment favoured by the global electrification trend. The company has high competence and capacity and fits well into our current business structure,” said Ralph Wolkener and Carsten Rüter, Presidents Hexpol Compounding Europe/Asia.

The acquisition is expected to bring a lower positive profit contribution.

The acquisition is funded by a combination of cash at hand and existing bank facilities. Vicom will be consolidated by Hexpol from 1 March 2021.

Meanwhile in other news, UK-based specialised adhesive tape converter BDK Industrial Products Ltd. is becoming part of leading water-based adhesive tapes manufacturer ATP Adhesive Systems Group based in Switzerland.

ATP Adhesive Systems Group is the pioneer and market leader in high-performing water-based adhesive tapes, exclusively focussing on water-based technology for over 30 years. The company serves a wide range of end markets, including automotive, construction, electronics, medical and general industries, offering tailor-made solutions through its in-house R&D capabilities. ATP employs around 300 staff in its production in Germany and its headquarters and development centre in Switzerland.

BDK has established itself as a solution provider to clients in the healthcare sector and other industries where controlled manufacturing conditions are required with significant converting capabilities of specialised adhesive tapes over the recent years. BDK’s CEO Nick Falconer together with his team will continue to run the firm’s operations from their Ipswich location.

The combination strengthens the market position of both companies and allows to offer an even wider range of tailor-made solutions to its customers, add the firms.

Family investor Bregal Unternehmerkapital acquired ATP in 2019 and together with its management team is focussing on expanding the business globally.
