GERMANY-based Ticona says it has had a record breaking third quarter for its long fibre-reinforced thermoplastics business and expects to increase its output in view of this and to “meet increasing demand for this metal replacement material in innovative automotive, industrial, electrical and electronic and consumer applications.”
The firm produces the material at its facilities in Germany, US and China. A new LFRT pilot production line also will open in Germany in the fourth quarter and last year, Ticona opened the world’s largest acetal production plant in Frankfurt, Germany.
Ticona, part of US-based Celanese, is the world’s largest acetal maker and produces other speciality resins as well. In the first half of 2012, Celanese’s Advanced Engineered Materials unit - including Ticona - posted sales of US$640 million, down by 5% from the same period last year. (PRA)
