M&As: Chroma Colour acquires Epolin; C-P Flexible Packaging acquires Genpak Flexible

US-based Chroma Color Corporation has acquired Epolin Chemicals that specialises in near-infrared absorbing dyes and thermoplastic compounds. Terms were not disclosed. Epolin serves customers developing products in sensors, security inks, light filters, touch-screens, night vision products, and eyewear. Epolin will operate as an independent subsidiary of Chroma Color and continue to maintain and invest in its customer and supplier relationships.

“This acquisition of Epolin will contribute significantly to Chroma Color’s leadership in the colorants and additives industry,” stated Tom Bolger, CEO of Chroma. "We are excited to add Epolin's cutting-edge NIR Dye technology to our expanding product portfolio and the members of the Epolin team to the Chroma family.”

“Of the many advantages Epolin customers will enjoy as a result of this transaction is access to Chroma Color’s extensive product development, testing, and validation capabilities. Epolin’s customers can now be served by Chroma Color’s ongoing R&D efforts to deliver new solutions for the markets that both Epolin and Chroma Color serve,” stated Greg Amato, CEO, Epolin.

Meanwhile, in other news, also in the US, C-P Flexible Packaging, a manufacturer of flexible packaging including rollstock, premade pouches, resealable packaging and shrink sleeves has acquired Genpak Flexible from The Jim Pattison Group.

Genpak Flexible is a North American supplier of compostable packaging and offers a wide range of unique, patented flexible packaging solutions. C-P Flexible Packaging is a longstanding portfolio company of First Atlantic Capital, a New York-based private equity firm.

With facilities in Aurora, Ontario and Lakeville, Minnesota, Genpak Flexible holds expertise in customised die-cut rollstock and pouches, as well as paper-based laminations. This investment complements C-P Flexible’s converting and printing capabilities and its North American footprint that now consists of six locations with over 750 employees.

According to C-P Flexible Packaging CEO Mike Hoffman: “Our two companies’ cultures are similar, with a laser-like focus on customers and continuous innovation. We’ve been highly impressed by the talent and resources within Genpak Flexible, and we are excited to move forward in creating more value for our customers.”
