SABIC, Plastic Energy tie up to build plant for recycled

Riyadh-headquartered chemicals firm Sabic and Plastic Energy Ltd, a UK-based specialist in chemical recycling of plastic waste into alternative fuels and oilsigned a memorandum of understanding (MoU) tobuild a first commercial plant in the Netherlands to refine material wastes into alternative fuels or oil (TACOIL) for making new virgin (food-safe) plastics.

The plant is expected to enter commercial production in 2021; and will support Sabic’s feedstock requirement for its petrochemical operations in Europe.

Frank Kuijpers, General Manager for corporate sustainability at Sabic, commented on the project: “Sustainability is a core value at Sabic and the circular economy is a cornerstone of our strategy as evidenced by this unique agreement”.
