Chinaplas 2020 postponed to April 2021; moves to Shenzhen

Asia’s largest plastics show has been postponed yet again, from its new scheduled date of 3-6 August 2020 to 13-16 April 2021. Originally to have been held 21-24 April, the organiser Adsale Exhibition Services had moved it to August, given the spread of Covid-19 in China early this year.

But now, with the pandemic having spread all over the world, with the worst hit countries being the US, Italy and Spain, the organiser says that “the virus now largely under control in China, poses a high degree of uncertainty globally”, adding that “China has now a formidable task of fighting against local rebound infections while preventing the next wave of outbreak from imported cases”.

On 6 April 2020, the State Council of China issued the circular of “The Further Control and Preventive Measures of the Novel Coronavirus at Key Venues, Units and Groups”. According to “Preventive Suggestions” in the circular, it has clearly mentioned that all kinds of exhibitions have to be stopped for the time being, adds the Hong Kong-based show organiser.

Besides the change of the show dates, the show venue will move from National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai to Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shenzhen.

The show’s move to Shenzhen had been announced early this year. Traditionally, Chinaplas rotates between the Shanghai and Guangzhou venues but next year’s Guangzhou slot had been moved to Shenzhen since the venue in Guangzhou had become too small for the show, which has grown since it was first launched 34 years ago.

Adsale adds that Shenzhen is an opportune city. “As an important manufacturing and R&D centRE for innovative technology in China, Shenzhen has been chosen by the Chinese government as one of the driving engines in the future development of the Greater Bay Area.”

Opened in 2019, the new exhibition space in Shenzhen boasts 400,000 sq m of space to cater to a larger event for next year. Chinaplas will now alternate between the cities of Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Meanwhile, Adsale apologised for the show changes and said, “As the show organiser, we have to put the safety and health of all show participants as our top priority and would appreciate your kind understanding.  Regarding the participation or admission fee paid by exhibitors and visitors, we will make the necessary arrangements and notify you soon. Please be assured that the Adsale team will always be at your service and will do our very best to assist our exhibitors, visitors and partners to tackle any difficulty arising from the show postponement.”
