Jindal Films, a manufacturer of speciality films for the flexible packaging and labelling markets, recently inaugurated its new Global Technology Innovation Centre in Virton, Belgium.

Over 200 industry participants from the converting, food, beverage, packaging, machinery and petrochemical sectors attended the event, says the India-headquartered firm. It showcased a pilot orientation line that provides capabilities for introducing new films.

“Jindal Films relies on the 30 years of technical expertise that has been established at this site,” said Serge François, director of the Virton Site. “And, we are counting on this fantastic innovation tool to equip the films business with new products for decades to come.”

The firm also said the centre supports its long-term strategy and reinforces its commitment to the packaging industry, while allowing Jindal Films to transition from a BOPP supplier to a packaging solutions provider and to open-up new opportunities, while expanding to new polymers and unlimited film structures.

Besides speciality packaging and labelling film solutions, Jindal manufactures multi-layer white opaque films, metallised films and coated films, for flexible packaging and labelling applications. It has affiliated production plants in Europe (Virton, Belgium; Kerkrade, The Netherlands; and Brindisi, Italy), and in the US (LaGrange, Georgia; and Shawnee, Oklahoma).

Meanwhile, speciality chemicals manufacturer, Songwon Industrial has officially opened a new Technology Innovation Centre in South Korea.

In line with the company’s aim to strengthen its position on the global specialty chemicals playing field, Songwon says that the new centre is a major milestone for the organisation as it will support innovation and enable Songwon to take another key step forward in entering new business areas with high value and sophisticated technology.

Located on the company’s Maeam site in South Korea, the three-story building encompasses 32,000 sq m. However, keeping an eye on the future, the facility has been especially designed with future expansion in mind and is constructed to allow the company to add two more floors later as required. The new facility will host both R&D, Global Application Community and Technical Service. It will enable the organisation to leverage the synergies between the groups, consolidate Songwon’s technologies and support the complete development of new products from the design phase to final customer applications.
