US automotive company expands in China

U

S-based automotive parts maker Inteva's Chinese joint venture with Shanghai SIIC Transportation Electronic Company has opened an automotive door systems technical centre in Shanghai, China. The 50,000 sq ft facility includes a new sound chamber, extensive testing capabilities, an expanded engineering centre and an advanced development laboratory.

With 400 employees, Inteva has manufacturing operations and engineering capabilities in Shanghai producing latches, actuators, control modules and door modules for customers such as Volkswagen, SAIC and General Motors.

Inteva has two other technical centres in China, in Shanghai and in the eastern city of Zhenjiang. It also has five Chinese facilities in various locations and altogether employs 1,500 people in the country.

Headquartered in Troy, Inteva employs 8,000 workers in 18 countries. Aside from door components, the company makes roofs, interior components and motors.

New York-based Renco Group acquired Inteva from Delphi Automotive two years ago for US$27.3 million, and it added ArvinMeritor's body systems division to its portfolio early this year.
