New owner for robot firm
E lexis, which owns German high-speed robot company Hekuma, has been bought by SMS, a German industrial conglomerate. SMS had already owned some shares and the final purchase gives SMS an 84.46% stake.
SMS, which now mainly owns companies that make machinery for the steel industry, sold its stakes in plastic machinery firms Battenfeld, American Maplan and Cincinnati Extrusion in 2007. Hekuma produces high-speed takeout robots and automation systems for medical products such as injection moulded petri dishes and pipettes and in-mould labelling (IML) systems for injection moulding. The company also sells IML equipment for thermoforming.
