Plastics industry in China booms
Last year's global downturn had little impact on China's plastics industry that grew by double-digit figures during the first half of 2010, according to a report from Research in China report. In fact, synthetic resin production went up by 23.21% in the first half of this year, compared to last year, to total 21.07 million tonnes.
The sector's profits totaled RMB 8.04 billion ($1.183 billion), which was up 54% year-on-year, while the output of plastic products rose 21.11% to 25.76 million tons. The total industrial profit sported the gaudiest gains, hitting RMB 22 billion ($3.239 billion), up 55% year-on-year.
The report says high outputs were recorded in the plastic plate, pipe and profile market sectors, which collectively registered a production output of 7.41 million tonnes in 2009 and 4.24 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2010.
