Thai projects in Map Ta Phut to proceed
With Thailand's Administrative Court having allowed 74 of the 76 projects that have been suspended at the country's industrial park at Map Ta Phut to resume, Thai chemical suppliers Siam Cement and PTT will be able to continue with their expansion plans.

Amongst the projects given the go ahead are Siam Cement's 90,000 tonnes/year methyl methacrylate plant, a 350,000 tonnes/year LLDPE and speciality elastomers unit and a cast sheet plant. PTT's sixth gas separation plant is expected to come onstream soon, allowing PTT to increase its production of ethylene. This will also allow PTT to start up its new 250,000 tonnes/year HDPE plant by the end of the year.

The projects at Map Ta Phut had come to a standstill last year after residents living in the area had filed a law suit claming that the plants had not complied with environmental legislation and that the emissions from the plants had made them ill.
