Sabic puts in more investments in China
Sabic Innovative Plastics is setting up a compounding plant for engineering resins in Chongqing, West China, which is an area already established as a hub for computer, consumer electronics and automotive sectors. The facility will open in 2013.
Against the back of a 10% growth expected in the petrochemicals sector in China, Sabic has made other investments such as the US$1 billion joint venture (with Sinopec) polycarbonate plant in Tianjin City, with an annual capacity of 260,000 tonnes.
The second investment is in new production lines for its Lexan polycarbonate resins and films in both Shanghai and Nansha in 2012. This comes on the heels of a similar Lexan compounding expansion in Nansha late last year.
