Chinese engineering resin plant for Solvay
In line with its strategy to expand its industrial base in fast moving markets like China, Belgian chemicals firm Solvay is setting up a compounding plant for speciality engineering resins at its Changshu site, in Jiangsu province. The EUR21 million plant is expected to start up in 2012.

The company says the plant will serve the fast growing markets in China for electronics, automotive, consumer and industrial applications and will initially produce compounds of Amodel polyphthalamide (PPA), Ixef polyarylamide (PARA) and Kalix modified PARA. Solvay also says the facility will be adaptable for future expansion for both overall capacity and for other high performance and fluorinated polymers.

According to the company, its sales of speciality polymers were above 25% of its total sales in Asia, in the first half of this year.
