PBN resins potential
J apanese firm Teijin Chemicals has launched its polybutylene napthalate (PBN) resins, which have better chemical resistance, gas and barrier resistance and wear properties than PPS and polyacetal. Although priced higher, the company said that its PNB resin is making inroads in a variety of applications.
Among them include the mobility sector which covers cable encapsulation in trains, where the resin proves to be resistant to abrasion between individual cables. Moreover, the resin can be used in gears, because it produces a silent and smooth finish.
Its gas-barrier properties, meanwhile, have seen it applicable for backsheet material in solar battery chargers where a service life of less than 10 years would be anticipated and the charger would typically be used indoors. Backsheets are normally comprised of multilayer structures.
