More foreign visitors at Italian show
The slowdown in Europe had an effect on the Italian Plast 2012 exhibition in Milan held recently. Though the overall number of visitors went down to 50,593, compared to 55,175 in 2009, foreign visitors totalled more than 18,000, compared to 17,500 at the 2009 edition, said the show organiser Promaplast.
The export markets are keeping Italians busy and this was evident at the show that had some thirty foreign delegations at the event. Plus, the countries of origin also grew (121 versus 114 in 2009).
But Italian visitors dropped by 14%, mainly due to the slower domestic market, said Promaplast.
The total number of exhibitors at Plast 2012 was 1,514 higher than 2009's 1,478 but the exhibiting area this year was smaller at 56,832 sq m, compared with 59,714 sq m in 2009. Thursday appeared to be the busiest day for Plast 2012, which accounted for 27% of all visits while Sunday apparently was the slowest.
Despite the generally low figures, the organisers said that the results of this year's Plast exceeded the original expectations they had given the slow economy. The organised programme of seminars and workshops that took place over three days, proved to be an ideal venue for refresher training.
The next show,Plast 2015, will take place at theFiera Milano Exhibition Centre, May 5 to 9.
