Momentive in phenolic jv in China
U
S company Momentive Specialty Chemicals is teaming up with Chinese speciality chemicals supplier UPC Technology Corporation to build a phenolic resin facility in Jiangsu province, to cater to the strong demand from the automotive and consumer markets.The new plant will produce a full range of speciality novolac and resole phenolic resins used in a diverse range of applications including refractories, friction and abrasives. These products are sold under the trade names of Bakelite and Durite.
Construction is expected to commence late this year after engineering design work and permitting is completed, with the plant anticipated to be commissioned by 2012.
The facility will follow on the heels of Momentive's new Cardura monomers plant recently commissioned in South Korea and its Versatic acids plant now under construction in Shanxi province in China.
