Extrusion applications from foam technology
U
S firm MuCell Extrusion has acquired Dow Chemical's patented portfolio for flat sheet extrusion of polyolefin resins. MuCell has also signed a license agreement with Spanish firm EDV Packaging Solutions to utilise its expanded technology offering to produce foamed PP barrier sheets for food packaging applications throughout Europe.According to MuCell, with its process and Dow's formulation expertise in resins will bring significant benefits to its customers. All relevant intellectual property is now bundled into one source, which brings clarity to the marketplace. The combination of MuCell's patents and intellectual property and Dow's patents allow customers to apply the foaming technology to products.
EDV Packaging Solutions, meanwhile, will utilise MuCell's technology to advance its food packaging applications to commercial production this quarter. The firm says that combined with its co-extrusion expertise it will be able to reduce packaging weight and therefore environmental impact.
