Asia to lead composites growth
Last year, global composites production expanded by nearly 5% to reach 8 million tonnes, with the Asia Pacific region accounting for 38% of the total production volume. It is against this backdrop that the JEC Asia show will be held from 18-20 October in Singapore.
The organiser of the show, JEC Group, also says that demand for the use of advanced composites is increasing across a wide spectrum of applications, with growth expected in the electrical and electronics, automotive and aeronautics industry segments over the next five years.
But it is the automotive sectors of China and India that will drive the growth of composites in the region. According to JEC's annual survey, the adoption of composites in vehicles currently stands at around 6% by weight and it is expected to increase as automotive manufacturers push for more weight reductions and lower manufacturing costs.
Besides the showcase of long fibre-reinforced composites for the automotive sector, the exhibition will also have new range of composites developments, especially in the use of natural fibres instead of carbon or glass fibres. JEC Asia will also introduce the latest process automation capabilities that help composites manufacturers in Asia achieve cost optimisation, enhanced productivity and improved product quality.
