Indorama's Indonesian PTA plant
T hailand-based Indorama Ventures Public is acquiring a 50% stake in Indonesian company PT Polyprima that has a capacity of 465,000 tonnes/year of purified terephthalic acid (PTA). Meanwhile, Indorama has also completed the takeover of polyester manufacturer Trevira.
Currently, Polyprima's plant is not operating and is expected to start commercial production in 2012 on completion of required maintenance, revamping and capacity de-bottlenecking, thereby increasing the capacity to 500,000 tonnes/year. The polymer capacity of Indorama in Indonesia after the greenfield project in 2013 will be 460,000 tonnes/year.
In terms of Trevira, Indorama and its joint venture partners have completed the formalities of the takeover. The new joint venture entity comprises of Indorama (75%) and Sinterama (25%).
Indorama says its acquisition of Trevira will facilitate its entry of into the branded specialist filament business and provide access to the R&D facility with accompanying intellectual property.
