Cereplast sets foot in Europe
U S bio-based materials producer Cereplast has opened a European headquarters in Germany and plans to add on a facility, too. The move follows a number of multi-million dollar agreements it has made with European manufacturers and distributors last year, including Sezersan Ambalaj and RI.ME.
Cereplast says the production plant is scheduled to open in 2012 will have a capacity of around 90,000 tonnes, which will be double the size of its US factory.
The company expects more use of its bioresins to come out of Europe, especially in the light of recent ban on single use PE supermarket bags by the Italian government. It also said that European manufacturers are increasingly seeking out plastic alternatives to comply with legislation that goes into effect in 2011.
