PolyOne expands in Brazil
U
S compounder and distributor PolyOne has acquired Uniplen Industria de Polimeros Ltda, a leading Brazilian producer of speciality engineered materials and distributor of thermoplastics, for US$21 million.Besides the cash purchase price, the Uniplen transaction has a potential for further consideration payable over the next three years, depending on Uniplen's results. Uniplen recorded revenue of US$34 million last year.
CEO Stephen Newlin said the acquisition provides PolyOne local expertise in the speciality engineered materials market. He also said the combination of Uniplen and the previously announced acquisition of Polimaster "firmly establishes PolyOne's speciality product offering and overall customer service capabilities in Brazil." PolyOne now has speciality engineered materials, colour masterbatch and distribution capabilities in Brazil.
The recently acquired Brazilian businesses are located in São Paulo, Santa Catharina and Novo Hamburgo, near Porto Allegre and serve customers in diverse end markets including consumer, transportation and appliance.
Apart from Brazil, PolyOne is continuing to look for opportunities in other high-growth regions such as Asia and the Middle East as well as in attractive end markets such as consumer and healthcare.
