Perstorp strengthens polyol capacity
S
wedish speciality chemicals company Perstorp has acquired the pentaerythritol business from Ashland, in line with its plan to increase polyol capacity. Pentaerythritol is a building block for the manufacture of alkyd resins, varnishes, PVC stabilisers and olefin antioxidants.
Perstorp has through its subsidiary Perstorp Polyols signed an agreement with Hercules Incorporated, a subsidiary of speciality chemicals company Ashland, for the acquisition of its Penta business, related technology and certain assets. The sale is primarily a commercial and technology deal and does not include the manufacturing plant in the US, any real estate or employees.
For Perstorp this is part of an ambitious investment campaign to increase polyol production. "The Penta business is a core area within Perstorp and these products have been key in the development of Perstorp as an international company. The US market in particular has historically been a focus for us for this business," said Perstorp President/CEO Martin Lundin. "This acquisition is an opportunity to further grow together with our customers in their various applications."
Perstorp plans to supply all needs out of the plants it is running at present, in Germany, the US and Sweden. With the additional volumes, as well as equipment and know-how resulting from the acquisition, the company plans to increase capacity. Investments will mainly take place in Perstorp's US facility.
The acquisition is subject to fulfillment of certain conditions and is expected to be completed within 60 days.
