Taiwanese tyre maker expanding capacity
Taiwan-based producer of tyres, Cheng Shin Rubber Industry is to set up three new plants in Taiwan and China, with a budget of NT$30 million. The plants in China will be in Chongqing and Xiamen.
Cheng Shin already has three plants, in Taiwan, Thailand and China and by building three more facilities will be able to increase its daily capacity 70% from the existing 100,000 tyres to 170,000.
The Xiamen plant will roll out the Cheng Shin brand of tyres and is expected to start up in the third quarter of 2011with a capacity of 26,000 tyres/day.
While Cheng Shin has been successful in producing bicycle, motorcycle and truck tyres it has not produced automotive tyres in China and this may change with the building of the Xiamen facility. In the past, Cheng Shin distributed automotive tyres with the MAXXIS brand but will now produce tyres under its own brand.
