Brückner enjoys steady growth in India
With India closely trailing behind China in terms of consumption, extrusion line maker Brückner forsees further growth in the country for packaging film lines, said spokesperson Karlheinz Weinmann at the Plastindia show, adding that to date the firm had sold 30 lines mainly for BOPP, with 15 of these sold in the last three years.
"The take-up rate has increased tremendously in recent years even though we have been in the country since 1974," he said. One reason is that Indian film makers are investing in Eastern Europe and the US and this has seen a hike in machinery sales, with a huge "investment boom" lately.
But future growth will still come from PP and polyester film lines and not from technical films, he said. "We have had some requests for shrink and capacitor films but this is not a big market yet in India," he said.
Weinmann also added, "The general trend and support from the government is pushing the demand for better packaging for food products and with the development of hyper markets in the country and growing affluence, more flexible packaging will be required."
