BMS gets go ahead for TDI plant
German materials firm Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) has been given approval for its construction in Dormagen of a plant for a key plastics precursor. Plans call for the construction of a EUR150 million plant producing 300,000 tonnes/year of TDI (toluene diisocyanate), which is required for flexible polyurethane foam.
The construction will be completed within the next two years. The firm says it use an eco-friendly process at the German plant. Compared with a conventional plant of the same size, the new facility will reduce energy consumption by up to 60% while requiring as much as 80% less solvent.
