Flexibility allows Keyuan to aim for higher capacity
C hinese company Keyuan Petrochemicals plans to expand its capacity by 30% from 550,000 to 720,000 tonnes/year. The company says its flexible production process and design will allow it to change the mix of feedstock to maximise production volumes, sales and profits.
It has produced 482,000 tonnes of petrochemical products in the first three quarters of 2010, or 17% above the original 550,000 tonne design capacity on an annualised basis. Keyuan expects to spend US$3.8 million to upgrade the catalytic pyrolysis processing equipment used in its existing production facilities, with installation scheduled to begin in March 2011.
The company says it can increase overall production volume greater than its design capacity for heavy oil if it mixes other feedstock (mainly light oil) with heavy oil. Selection of feedstock may vary based on production plan and the availability of feedstock.
