Engel sees good growth in India
I njection moulding machinery maker Engel's Indian subsidiary has recorded "exceptionally high level of orders" in the financial year 2009/2010, especially for the automotive and technical moulding sectors, with good growth also expected for the caps/closures sector.
The Austrian company has been engaged in India for the past 12 years with its own distribution and service subsidiary. More than 800 machines have already been installed. Over 100 new and 200 used machines were sold in 2010 alone. The trend is towards tiebar-less machines from its Victory series. A further focus is on multi-component applications, which are very much in demand in India.
After China, India is Asia's second most important market for European machine manufacturers. In 2009, the gross domestic product grew by 7.2% and a growth of 9% in 2010. In the 2009/2010 period, the demand for plastics grew by 15% compared to about 6% in previous years. The high level of growth is attributable to brisk domestic demand from the automotive, packaging, white goods, agricultural and construction sectors.
