Fastest closure machine in the world

t the recent Chinaplas, Husky Injection Molding Systems introduced its HyCAP High Performance Package (HPP) system, said to be the world's fastest for moulding beverage closures with a 1.8 second cycle for a 72-cavity mould. To be commercialised in 2013, the system was shown only to journalists and prospective clients with Husky closely guarding its mould system.The company combined its existing capabilities with those of tooling firm KTW Group, a company it acquired in 2011, to render better economies of pressure with precision injection moulding. It has also managed to eliminate some movements in the opening/closing of the mould, which is now done in the blink of an eye using a proprietary ejection system!
Apart from the 20% faster cycle times over the next leading injection moulding competitor and up to 20% less energy consumption over its previous generation product, other improvements include direct drives instead of a gear box and smaller injection unit, allowing for more repeatability and reliability.
According to Gerardo Chiaia, Vice-President, Global Sales for Beverage Packaging, five to six lines will be installed close to Husky's manufacturing, before the commercial launch in 2013. "We will supply it as a complete solution with the mould, machine and downstream equipment like cap inspection." He also said the firm had encouraging response to the unit shown at Chinaplas, stating, "It has attracted attention from current and new customers."
