Rubber industry on a fast track

THROUGH upstream R&D activities, Malaysiaís rubber industry will continue to expand its production with a target of reaching an output of 2 million tonnes of natural rubber and contributing RM52.9 billion to the countryís coffers by 2020. The introduction of an automatic rubber tapping system, roll out of mobile service applications and rubber yield programmes are all expected to help upgrade the sector, said Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) Director-General Datuk Dr Salmiah Ahmad, in an interview with PRA recently.

Higher productivity from new resin for packaging

Borealis says its latest BorPure RF490MO PP offers packaging converters the ability to reduce cycle time by 10% and energy consumption by 5%. The random copolymer PP innovation for transparent and non-opaque coloured closures sets a new benchmark in combining product performance with sustainability in the conversion of lightweight closure solutions, says the firm. BorPure RF490MO is also said to offer improved stiffness/impact balance with transparency and optical appeal.

BorPure RF490MOís broad spectrum of benefits derive from the 20-30% higher stiffness levels and dimensional colour stability achieved with proprietary Borealis Nucleation Technology (BNT), while retaining the impact performance of existing random PP grades.

Tests comparing the new grade with the marketís current reference materials have shown the resin renders low processing temperature and faster cycle times. It enables converters to use 20% lower barrel temperatures than in standard conditions. This step-change contributes to faster crystallisation behaviour creating a saving in cycle time of up to 10%.
