Sustainable calcium carbonate
Swiss company CalciTech is offering an artificial calcium carbonate filler made from waste lime and effluent carbon dioxide.

Said to have improved processing and end product properties, CalciRC100S is made by capturing carbon dioxide, which means the production does not rely on unsustainable freshly mined materials. A further plus is that it can be used at higher loading levels, meaning that less polymer is used and processing costs are lower.

Other pluses are the lower density and need for less thermal energy in extrusion. The higher purity of the product is said to improve profile whiteness and thermal stability and its narrow particle size distribution allows for higher gloss and toughness.
