Higher supply of PE and PP in India
Though set up in 2006, Indian company ONGC Petro Additions (OPAL) is only now starting its polyolefins business having announced the set up of a 340,000 tonnes/year PP plant and two 360,000 tonnes/year LLDPE/HDPE plants.

The plants will be located in Dahej Special Economic Zone of Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) in Gujarat. Start up is targeted for December 2012.

Ineos Technologies has licensed its Innovene PP and G process technologies for the manufacture of PP homopolymers, random and impact copolymers and LLDPE and HDPE respectively.

OPAL is a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas (ONGC). The Indian government has a majority stake in ONGC, which is the main supplier for natural gas and oil in the country.
