PTT’s plant on schedule
Thailand’s largest polyolefins producer PTT Chemicals has put to rest concerns about delays of its new plant and will start it up this month. The plant will, however, run at a lower capacity due to lower feedstock supply.

PTT was relying on feedstock from a new gas separation plant set up by its parent company. It is one of the 64 projects at the Map Ta Phut industrial estate in Rayong that were suspended last year by the country’s Central Administrative Court for not meeting public health and environmental impact requirements set out in Section 67 of the 2007 Constitution. Of the 64 suspended projects, worth a combined 300 billion baht, 18 belong to the PTT Group.

It was believed that the new plant would be delayed because of the suspension of the sixth gas separation plant. But PTT has targeted plant start-up as scheduled by directing feedstock from its existing plants to the new plant.

The company had planned to expand its polyolefins production to 2.8 million tonnes this year.
