Innova boosts Mexico manufacturing capacity with asset purchase
Innova Engineered Plastics, a US-headquartered manufacturer of engineered heavy-gauge plastic enclosures and single-use components for medical devices and other highly regulated industries, is purchasing key manufacturing assets in Mexicali, Mexico from injection moulding machine provider, Atmex. The acquisition includes nine injection moulding machines ranging from 650 to 2,500 tonnes. Innova has also added 93,000 sq ft of production space in Mexicali, increasing its production capacity and large-component moulding capabilities.
The investment gives Innova greater large-tonnage capacity for bigger, more demanding projects, as well as additional mid-range capacity for higher production volumes and faster turnaround. This enables the company to meet growing demand for engineered heavy-gauge plastic enclosures in medical devices and life sciences, aerospace and defence, diagnostic and laboratory equipment, autonomous robotics, data centres and AI, and other highly regulated industries.
Innova CEO Mark Rauenzahn said the investment was a significant step in the company's growth strategy and demonstrated its commitment to expanding alongside customers. He said large-tonnage injection moulding would allow Innova to take on larger, more complex projects, while the additional capacity would enable it to serve customers from design through full-scale production.
The new facility is Innova's third production site in Mexicali, strengthening its manufacturing presence in the region and its ability to increase output as demand grows. The company's operations also include a design and innovation hub in Shirley, Massachusetts, and a specialised cast urethane centre in San Diego, California.
Innova provides end-to-end plastic enclosure solutions throughout the product lifecycle, from design and 3D printing to CNC machining, cast urethane, thermoforming, reaction injection moulding, structural foam moulding and injection moulding with capacities of up to 2,500 tonnes.
