India Expansions: Revalyu Resources starts up PET recycling plant in India; Lubrizol ties up with Polyhose to build medical tubing facility in India
Germany-based PET recycling firm Revalyu Resources, which is owned by German technology group Heraeus, has commissioned its second PET recycling plant at its site in Nashik, India, to further bolster its production capacity and meet growing customer demands.
The recent commissioning of the second plant means the site now recycles over 20 million used PET bottles a day into 350,000 pounds/day of high quality PET chips and PET polymer. This is being used by customers to meet their sustainability targets in applications from diverse sectors such as PET bottle, packaging materials, textiles, automobile accessories and a wide variety of other PET copolymer based products.
The third plant is fully financed as part of the US$100 million investment, and under construction which will add a further 260,000 pounds/day of capacity in Q3 2025. This will increase the site's recycling capacity to approximately 35 million post-consumer plastic bottles a day and total production capacity to 620,000 pounds/day.
The site utilises patented glycolysis-based recycling technologies and automated processes, which make the manufacturing operations highly optimised, scalable, profitable and easily replicable. The recycled PET is produced using 75% less water and 91% less energy than conventional PET made from oil, the company adds.
Revalyu Resources will set up a 520,000 pounds/day PET recycling facility in the US by 2027 and has plans to expand globally with partnerships to increase its production to over 2 million pounds/day by 2030.
Commenting on the recent successes, Vivek Tandon, Founder, Revalyu Group, said, "This is a revolutionary moment for the PET plastic recycling industry. Finally the world has a commercially proven, scalable, profitable and environmentally sustainable recycling technology that can truly reverse engineer used PET plastic into virgin grade quality PET polymer. We continue to seek global partners to join us in our global expansion as we continue to drive innovation to deliver the highest quality sustainable (r)polymer to customers and take care of our planet for our future generations".
Meanwhile in other news, US specialty chemicals firm Lubrizol and fluid conveyance system firm Polyhose signed a MoU to set up a medical manufacturing site in Tamil Nadu. The site will increase Lubrizol’s local medical tubing volume five-fold, creating easier access to medical tubing in India and in markets around the world via export. Medical tubing produced via the partnership will be used in neurovascular and cardiovascular medical applications, such as balloon catheters and minimally invasive procedure catheters.
Groundbreaking of the new manufacturing site is expected in 2025 with operations going live in 2026.
The medical tubing will be produced with Lubrizol’s advanced medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) along with other thermoplastic polymers, which offer biocompatibility and high performance while ensuring patient comfort. The new manufacturing facility will be ISO 13485 compliant, ensuring safe, high-quality medical tubing, it adds.
Lubrizol has committed more than US$350 million in Indian investments over the last year. This year, Lubrizol opened a Global Capability Center (GCC) in Pune and announced the purchase of a 120-acre plot land in Aurangabad to construct Lubrizol’s largest manufacturing facility in India and second largest globally to support the region’s growing transportation and industrial markets.
Just a year ago, Lubrizol broke ground in the first phase of a 100,000-tonne CPVC resin plant in Vilayat, Gujarat, India, the largest single-site capacity for CPVC resin production globally. This project is in response rising CPVC demand for piping applications and clean drinking water in India, as well as neighbouring countries. In addition, Lubrizol is doubling its CPVC compound manufacturing capacity at its Dahej, Gujarat, site to meet growing needs in the piping sector.
The collaboration between Lubrizol and Polyhose will utilise Lubrizol’s strengths in India to cater to both local and global customers. A local-for-local offering allows for a collaborative approach to achieve precise product design, along with reliable supply, quick turnaround and swift technical support for Indian OEMs.
“Our ongoing collaboration with Lubrizol over the past seven years has been a testament to this commitment, and today, we are excited to take this partnership to the next level,” said Shabbir Y J, Managing Director, Polyhose India Pvt. Ltd. “This MoU marks a new chapter in our shared journey, and we are proud that in Tamil Nadu, we have experienced substantial growth in recent years—continues to be the ideal location for fostering innovation and industrial expansion. Together, we are poised to advance industry standards and unlock new opportunities for growth.”
