Expansions: Envalior announces PPS compounding facility in Germany; Toray to set up compounding site in China

To better serve growing customer demand in Europe and the Americas, engineering materials firm Envalior has announced that it will invest in a PPS (polyphenylene sulphide) compounding facility in Europe. The PPS production facility in Uerdingen, Germany, is expected to begin in the second half of 2025.
Envalior says its PPS material Xytron combines a strong set of properties, including chemical and hydrolysis resistance at elevated temperatures, stable heat aging performance up to 240°C, very good and stable electrical properties at elevated temperatures, low moisture absorption with high dimensional stability, and inherent flame retardance that meets UL94 V0.
Since 2016, when Xytron entered the market, the PPS material has built a strong track record across OEMs and tier customers. The new facility will provide local supply and additional services to customers in Europe while also supporting the Americas with more diverse supply options.

In other news, Japanese material supplier Toray Industries says it is setting up a new production site for high-performance resin compounds in Guangdong Province, China. The new facility is scheduled to begin operations in April 2025. It did not state the capacity to be produced.
Toray Plastics (China) Co Ltd will set up the facility at the premises of manufacturing subsidiary Toray Resins (Foshan) Co Ltd. Given this, Toray is also considering a partial production transfer from Toray Plastics (Shenzhen) Ltd to the new production site.
Toray said the new facility is designed in part to stabilise supplies of high-performance resins in response to various market trends. It aims to capture rising demand for these resins in southern China and expand its business in the Chinese market by focusing on new energy vehicle applications.
It will also address anticipated growth in advanced communications, electrical and electronic applications, and solar power generation.
The new site will not only serve growing demand within China but also function as a strategic hub for global operations, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia.
