Sinopec starts production at world’s largest PTA project in China

Recently, the world’s largest PTA project by single-unit production capacity was officially put into operation by Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber Co in Jiangsu Province, China. The production capacity of 3 million tonnes/year will come from two new plants added on to two existing lines at Yizheng.

As a crucial intermediate and a key raw material for PET resin, which is widely used in the production of plastic bottles, fibres, films, and packaging materials, PTA plays a significant role in various aspects of people’s daily lives.

The PTA plant is also one of the most complex facilities in petrochemical industry. Sinopec has adopted short-process, smart-manufacturing and green production technologies to lead the industrial pack, it claims.

Solvay opens blowing agent plant in Italy

In other news, Belgian chemical firm Solvay has opened its groundbreaking Alve-One production unit in Rosignano, Italy. This marks a new milestone with the launch of a significant European production facility for the chemical blowing agent eco-designed to transform the thermoplastic foaming industry.

Solvay's Alve-One unit aims to address the growing demand for safer and more sustainable blowing agents in various consumer and industrial uses, globally. These include automotive, footwear, building & construction, and consumer goods, aiming to reduce carbon footprints in foamed end-products while enhancing overall health and safety standards to protect both people and the environment.

Among the attendees at the inauguration ceremony in Rosignano, Italy, were key players operating in the thermoplastic foaming industry, including those in artificial leather for automotive and fashion, wallcovering, packaging and insulation materials, footwear, yoga mats and other sports apparel sectors.

Alve-One solutions have received official recognition as a sustainable alternative for foamed thermoplastics from various organisations. These include the International Chemical Secretariat (ChemSec), the Solar Impulse Foundation, and France Chimie, claims Solvay.
