Chinaplas 2021: Arburg steps up with additive manufacturing; new location in China

German injection moulding machine maker Arburg prides itself on its representation in China with branches in Shanghai, Shenzhen, as well as in Hong Kong. Last year, it added on another location: Pinghu. It also expanded its offerings in the country to include its additive manufacturing Freeformer machines and the setting up of the Arburg Technology Centre in Pinghu for customisation of machines to suit customer requirements.

“We now have four locations in China. This enables us to provide our customers with fast, competent and comprehensive support in the field of injection moulding, additive manufacturing, automation, and digitalisation,” said Gerhard Böhm, Managing Director Sales and Service, speaking at the online Media Day event held on the occasion of the Chinaplas 2021 trade fair recently.

“All around the globe, the name Arburg stands for high quality not only in its products and process technology but also in the pre and after sales service. That is why we continue expanding our portfolio in China. This includes the expansion of the additive manufacturing operations at our Shanghai site (which has been Arburg’s main site in China since 2004). Here, we have set up our Arburg Prototyping Centre (APC). With its Freeformers, this APC is somewhat smaller than the Arburg prototyping centre in Lossburg, but nevertheless comparable in terms of its capability,” he said, noting, “With regards to the Arburg plastic Freeformer, we cooperate with different prominent companies in the medical technology sector and also in the automotive industry.”

Böhm also highlighted another milestone for the company in China with the opening of the Arburg Technology Centre (ATC) in Pinghu last year. Over an area of 2,300 sq m, it has 60 “Made in Germany” Allrounders manufactured exclusively at the company’s headquarters in Lossburg, Germany. “These machines are ready to be customised according to local customer specifications at a short notice. Furthermore, our engineering team develops turnkey systems with local partners. Additionally, we offer application, technology support, and consulting on all aspects of digitalisation and smart factory.”

As well as providing a base for machine specification and automation, the ATC in Pinghu also offers facilities for customers to have their injection moulds tested and attend training courses. The training provision will deliver comprehensive process and application technology support and consulting services drawn from decades of know-how obtained in the fields of plastics processing, automation and digitalisation..

Another milestone for Arburg is the acquisition of German electrical drive specialist , AMKmotion, by the Arburg partners at the beginning of the year, enabling Arburg to significantly expand its position with regards to end-to-end solution, according to Böhm.

Meanwhile, Zhao Tong, Managing Director at Arburg China reiterated that industrialisation is an important topic. Digitalisation is a key harbinger in increasing production efficiency, he said. “ Digitalisation offers enormous potential that is far from exhausted, In addition, new approaches are constantly being added.”

Catch up with Arburg at the on-going Chinaplas show until the 16 April 2021 in Shenzhen, where it showcases its broad range of products for plastics processing. High-end machine technology and turnkey solutions will be on display at stand J21 in Hall 10, and the focus will be on the topics of digitalisation and resource conservation.
